Table of Contents
Captured within the heart of TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre, this image offers a rare glimpse into the Advanced Rare Isotope Laboratory (ARIEL). These mechanical telemanipulators serve as the primary interface for technicians working within the "Hot Cell"—a $10M, lead-shielded containment chamber designed to handle high-level radioactive materials. By utilizing these master-slave robotic arms behind 23cm-thick lead shielding and heavy lead-glass windows, scientists can safely exchange isotope-producing targets destined for life-saving cancer research and particle physics.
2025 TRIUMF Photowalk People’s Choice Winners
A number of the world’s leading science laboratories will open their doors to amateur and professional photographers as they join together to host the annual Global Physics Photowalk competition. These are the images chosen by staff and students at TRIUMF in October 2025.
